Since 1991, Save Ourselves (SOS) Breast Cancer Organization has supported breast cancer survivors by offering services, at no charge, such as support groups and a 24/7 hotline linking the newly diagnosed with other survivors in the Sacramento community and beyond. Volunteers operate a free lingerie closet with new and gently used hats, wigs, prosthetics, mastectamy bras and more, in addition to a free library of books, CDs and DVDs. SOS also offers a valuable monthly educational forum where healthcare providers, researchers and nutritional experts share information on health issues and resources at Nordstrom, Arden Fair Mall.
SOS does not merely promote breast health awareness; it is a ribbon of volunteers "Survivors Turned Thrivers" helping one another through the challenges and changes of breast cancer. It is a ribbon of support winding through the families and workplaces of our Sacramento community.
Donations are needed to maintain the organization's hotline, website (wwww.save-ourselves.org), to support trainings and provide materials for hotline volunteers, to offer professionally-led support groups and to provide outreach to breast cancer patients and survivors in the Sacramento region.
While we wait for a cure, improved early detection and clearer prevention guidelines, the disease continues on. Save Ourselves is dedicated to offering support so that this turning point in an individual's life is transformed from surviving to
